Mental Illnesses in America

Within America, very little is being done to educate people about mental illnesses and even less being done to make people aware about the sheer numbers of mentally ill people in the United states.

Many people can't even recognize the signs of mental illnesses, even people with mental illnesses themselves. With the growing number of mental illnesses every day, and the stalled increase on psychologists, many people are being left behind in society with no help to be found. Also, many adults avoid care for these mental illnesses because of the lack of support to get treatment. America seems to have many more glaring problems throughout it in accordance to mental illnesses simply because of the lack of funding towards it in the government compared to the rest of the developed world. All in all, the government doesnt help them and their insurance typically even helps less.

Around the World

It seems that the rest of the world is attempting to approach this issue with a much stronger approach. Throughout their universal healthcare that the United states has not yet to pick up on, they help mentally ill people with their problems without forcing the ill to do it all on their own.

Universal healthcare provides the mentally ill with the necessary help that they need to be productive members of society. Although, with this effort the WHO (World health organization) states that "Mental disorders affect one in four people" even around the world. This is obviously not only a problem in america, but in around the world too, and it needs to be helped even more.

"The U.S. stands almost entirely alone among developed nations that lack universal health care."(Fisher)
